The only problem I have is that it can't be used to download image or video files from the phone I was using it with (Samsung SCH-A950). I also had to spend quite a bit of time figuring out which driver to use, installing BitPim, and generally fiddling around to get my laptop to find the phone. These were issues with my phone, not the cable, but I'd recommend doing some research with your model before buying this product, especially if you have an older phone. The support on Gomadic's site is helpful, though, for at least pointing you in the right direction to resolve problems you might encounter.
I might buy a new tip to use this with my new phone, but I'm definitely going to do some research first to see if it will be compatible and easy to use.
